The Pottsville Area School District is located in northeast Pennsylvania, Schuylkill County. It is approximately 32 miles north of Reading and 50 miles east of Harrisburg. The school campus is located in the area of West Laurel Boulevard in the City of Pottsville.
The district includes the City of Pottsville and six additional municipalities--Mechanicsville, Mt. Carbon, Port Carbon, Palo Alto and Norwegian Township. The total population of the tax-based entity is 18,644 based on the 2019 census data. In addition, the borough of Saint Clair, population 3,004, has a tuition-based agreement with the district at the secondary level.
Pottsville Area School District serves 2,422 students. Our district includes three instructional buildings; John S. Clarke Elementary Center, D.H.H. Lengel Middle School and Pottsville Area High School. We offer a one-to-one K-12 technology learning environment since 2016. Our High School offers 12 AP courses and has earned a bronze medal from US News and World Report as one of the Best High Schools in the US.
