D. H. H. L Music Department and students rock!
6th grade students learned how popular songs are constructed using something called Sonata form, which is from classical music!
Students then used Boomwhackers to compose their own music using Sonata form as a guide!
Mrs. Kayla Kurtz,(left) DHH Lengel Music teacher at the PMEA conference. She spoke about how her modern band training helps implement popular music in her 5-8 grade music classes.
DHHL Middle School Music teacher Kayla Kurtz collaborated with Dr. Sharon Davis from Lebanon Valley College, Mr. Dan Brenner from Spring Grove Area School District, and Mr. Dean Packard-Howey from Northwest Arkansas School of Rock during a PMEA conference at Lebanon Valley College. They led a session called Modern Band in the Classroom: Performing, Creating and Assessment. They were thrilled to have wonderful attendance (standing room only!) and received wonderful compliments throughout the day! PASD encourages teachers to seek out and participate in rewarding experiences with colleagues!
